In Villahermosa we visited the Parque de La Venta, where monuments from the Olmec site of La Venta are displayed.

From Villahermosa we drove to the site of Comalcalco, the westernmost ancient Maya site.  It is located in a river delta, so is unique among Maya sites in being built of brick instead of stone.  Our visit was truncated because of wind and rain.

That same afternoon we drove through the rain to the town of Palenque, and the next morning we visited the Palenque Museum, which is full of spectacular finds from the site.  We were scheduled to visit the site that afternoon, but had to postpone because of the pouring rain.
